Kiwi Fruit


The kiwi fruit is not even a native of New Zealand like the bird. The fruit really originates from southeastern China. It was called the Chinese gooseberry until it was transplanted to tropical places in the early 1900s. A grower in New Zealand noticed that it resembled the shaggy, round kiwi bird and started calling it kiwi fruit.

Place unripe kiwis in a paper bag with an apple, pear or banana at room temperature for a few days. It the fruit is still hard it can be kept in the refrigerator for a couple of weeks. Slice kiwis and add them to salads or use as an appealing garnish. What is the best way to enjoy kiwifruit? That’s simple: Take a knife and cut the kiwi in half. Then, use a spoon to scoop out the nutrient-rich, bright green inside and enjoy.
